Kootenay Lake Ferries on Winter Schedule – September 9, 2023
As of September 9, 2023, Kootenay Lake Ferries will be back on the winter schedule with Osprey 2000; MV Balfour will be out of service and will return for the 2024 summer schedule

Employment Opportunity – Relief Marine Officer
Western Pacific Marine’s Kootenay Lake Ferries division is based in beautiful Balfour, located in the southeastern corner of British Columbia, surrounded by the Selkirk, Monashee and Purcell mountain ranges. The Kootenay region is a popular place for outdoor adventurers, art and music lovers, foodies, and history buffs.
Western Pacific Marine provides year-round ferry service on pristine Kootenay Lake, 7 days a week between Balfour and Kootenay Bay. We are seeking the following relief Officers with Azipod experience:
- Engineers with minimum Transport Canada 2 nd Class Motor STCW certificate
- Masters & Mates with minimum Transport Canada Master or Mate Limited Over 60 Tonne certificate and willing to obtain the additional endorsement for the Kootenay Lake Ferries division.

Osprey 2000 Fall Refit – Out of Service Oct 10 – Oct 24 2023
The Osprey 2000 Ferry will be OUT OF SERVICE Oct 10 – Oct 24, 2023 for semi-annual maintenance.
The smaller capacity MV Balfour ferry will be in service, operating on the regular winter schedule. Please note: there is potential for increased wait times during busy sailings – refer to DriveBC.ca for updates.
MV Balfour weight restriction: Only one 6-8 axle semi-trailer per sailing

Contract for electric-ready Kootenay Lake ferry awarded to WPM
The $62.9-million contract to build the new electric-ready ferry for Kootenay Lake has been awarded to Western Pacific Marine Ltd. of Vancouver; this will provide passengers with a larger, cleaner and more accessible vessel.
