RELIEF CAPTAIN

Western Pacific Marine Ltd. Is committed to ensuring a safe and customer focused marine travel
experience. Located in the Selkirk mountains among the west arm of Kootenay Lake is a vibrant
community of outdoor enthusiasts where an opportunity exists for a Seasonal Relief Captain located in
beautiful Nelson, BC.

  • The M.V. Osprey 2000 is a 240 foot RORO ferry and has azipod steering and requires 500 ton
    Certification or higher.
  • The Relief Captain reports to the Marine Manager and is responsible for the shift coverage of the regular
    Masters to facilitate summer relief between June 2023 and October 2023 and is best suited for a retired
    individual thinking of locating in the Nelson area.
  • The Relief Captain is responsible for supervision of licensed and unlicensed members of the crew.
  • The position has a shift pattern of 6 on 3 off 8.5 hour days with am and pm shifts.
  • A basic understanding of computer applications to administer various programs and the ability to
    manage customer service matters effectively and with diplomacy are also required

RELIEF MARINE OFFICER

Western Pacific Marine’s Kootenay Lake Ferries division is based in beautiful Balfour, located in the
southeastern corner of British Columbia, surrounded by the Selkirk, Monashee and Purcell mountain
ranges. The Kootenay region is a popular place for outdoor adventurers, art and music lovers, foodies,
and history buffs.

Western Pacific Marine provides year-round ferry service on pristine Kootenay Lake, 7 days a week
between Balfour and Kootenay Bay. If you are interested in an opportunity that blends a competitive

We are seeking the following relief Officers with Azipod experience:

  • Engineers with minimum Transport Canada 2 nd Class Motor STCW certificate
  • Masters & Mates with minimum Transport Canada Master or Mate Limited Over 60 Tonne certificate and willing to obtain the additional endorsement for the Kootenay Lake Ferries division.
